Fake doctor held at Biswanath

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, September 12: Sensation prevailed in Sootea, Kusumtola and Jamugurihat area when the medical degree of one practicing MD doctor proved to be fake by a board of medical investigation, Biswanath today. According to information, one Lakheswar Das who introduced himself as an MD and continued his medical practices at Jubi Medicos, Kusumtola, Dipankar Medicos, Sootea and in many other remote places of Sootea, Jamugurihat and Kusumtola since last 18 years. On the basis of doubt, Sootea Press Club had written an application to the deputy commissioner of Biswanath demanding a neutral inquiry about the medical degree of the practicing doctor Lakheswar Das on September 3. On getting the application, Biswanath DC Munindra Nath Nagatey immediately constituted a medical investigation board comprising of Dr. Narayan Mahanta, Joint Director of health services, Biswanath, Dr. Eliza Deka, SDMO, Biswanath and Dr. Ranjit Das, secretary AMSA Biswanath to enquire the matter. Similarly, the medical investigation board asked Lakheswar Das to appear before the board on September 9 along with all his supporting documents at Biswanath. During the time of investigation, Das had produced a fake medical certificate from Maharashtra Medical Council and a medical certificate from a Seva Ashram, Guwahati. When the medical board asked him to produce his original HSLC and HS passed marksheet and certificates, he failed to produce them before the board. Das also gave a written note to the medical investigation board that he had no valid medical degree. The medical board termed his medical certificates as fake and submitted the report to the deputy commissioner. Addressing a media gathering today, Biswanath DC Munindra Nath Nagatey said that strict legal action against the fake medical doctor will be taken immediately. Lakheswar Das has lived in a rented house at Karatipar, Jamugurihat since 2003. When a team of media persons visited his rented house he was not available there.
