ASSP submitted memorandum to CM

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, September 2: Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Parishad (ASSP) Lakhimpur District Committee submitted a memorandum to the CM of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Lakhimpur DC to curb the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the state on Tuesday. In the memorandum signed by ASSP Lakhimpur District Committee president Jihirul Islam Mirdha and general secretary Azad Nur Zaman, it is stated that ASSP has deeply notified that the poor and people with limited income of the state are facing financial crisis due to high price rise of all items including essential commodities. The uninterrupted and rigid price rise of petrol and diesel has adversely influenced the price rise of all other commodities. The unemployment problem with parallel sides of price rise has a worse impact on the socio-economic and political situation. Because of wrong policies adopted by the Government, the volume of the agro based economy of the nation has been narrowed down and no industry has been developed. Moreover, the Government has not taken up any positive step to ensure the payment of appropriate wages and social security to the lakh of employed workers of various schemes and also workers of the unorganized sector. The Government has not implemented the assurance given to pay minimum wages of Rs. 351/- to tea garden workers. Even the legal claim for remuneration of MGNREGA upto Rs.600/- has been ignored. Under these facts and circumstances, the ASSP Lakhimpur District Committee has placed nine demands for fulfillment in the memorandum. They are-- to restrain the rise of price of petrol, diesel,LPG and essential commodities to supply the rice, wheat, pulses, mustard oil,sugar,salt to the public at cheap rate and, stop harassment in the name of digital ration card to reduce excess electricity bills; to conduct land survey of the state and the people occupying the govt. land for long period are to be given patta, and patta may be issued to landless persons; all the vacant posts both in public and private sectors are to be filled up forthwith; to ensure minimum support price of crops to the cultivators and to establish a centre in panchayat level to collect rice at govt. rate from the cultivators; the employees under various schemes are to be paid their due salaries recognising them as govt. employee; tea garden worker may be paid minimum wages@ Rs. 351/- per day, and to provide social security to the workers of unorganized sector; to provide relief to the flood victim cultivators in the form of free seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, and to declare flood and erosion of Assam as a national problem; abolition of schools in the name of amalgamation should be stopped forthwith; and old pension scheme may be restored canceling NPS scheme. Besides the president and general secretary of the ASSP Lakhimpur District Committee, vice-presidents of the Committee Motiur Rahman and Abdul Hannan, assistant general secretary of the committee Jiabur Rahman and Jakira Akhtar Hussain, and ASSP Lakhimpur Constituency Committee president Jamir Ali consisted of the ASSP team who submitted the memorandum.
