Biswanath Chariali, September 3: Abhiruchi Sports Day, the birthday of Bhogeswar Baruah, the first Arjuna award recipient from the state was observed at Sootea amid various activities today along with the rest of the state. Istantik Club, a leading socio-cultural, sports and entertainment friendly organisation of the greater Sootea under Biswanath district had organised the special day at Sootea. Notably, Istantik Club has a glorious history of celebrating Abhiruchi Sports Day since 1984. The 38th Abhiruchi Sports Day was no exception to this. To commemorate the special day a cycle rally was taken out with a tag 'Let's Paddle' which was flagged off by Bishmita Gogoi, a national player and Jadab Bora, headmaster of Sootea Gyan Vikash Academy jointly. Earlier to this sports persons and sports organizers including Rashmi Barua, Prabin Hazarika, Bhaba Saikia were felicitated by the organizer. The cycle rally was taken out to make people aware about the benefits of cycling and saving the environment. Members of Sootea chapter of Senior Citizens Forum, trainees of Biswanath Wushu Club, students from various educational institutions of the greater Sootea area and members of the Cycling Club, Biswanath participated in the rally.
