Biswanath Chariali, August 17: As per the instructions of the state committee of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), a mass demonstration was staged at Biswanath by the members of Biswanath district AJYCP today against the government decision for implementation of English medium for teaching Mathematics and General Science from 3rd standards onwards in the schools of Assam. The demonstrators demanded implementation of the recommendation of the NEP (New Education Policy) for imparting elementary education through the mother tongue as a medium of instruction, increasing the teacher-pupil ratio. The demonstrators further demanded that the state government should establish science and technical institutions within a radius of 5 kilometres. At the end of the sit-in demonstration, the members of the students wing submitted a memorandum to the chief minister of Assam through the deputy commissioner of Biswanath. The demonstration was attended by Sourav Das, Pulak Bora, Nasir Ahmed, Debabrat Medhi, Diganta Barua, Amarjyoti Bora, Priyanku Deka, Nihar Saikia and other members.
