North Lakhimpur, July 15: A media workshop on child rights was held at Lakhimpur Commerce College today. Themed on Suraksha Campaign: Providing Children a Protective Environment to Develop to their Full Potential, the media workshop was organized by Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) with technical support from UNICEF, Assam in collaboration with Information and Public Relations Department, Govt. Of Assam, the Media Cell of Lakhimpur Commerce College and North Lakhimpur Press Club. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal, Lakhimpur Commerce College. Eminent journalist and author Mrinal Talukdar and Dr. Pilu Hazarika, Member, ASCPCR attended the workshop as resource persons. Maharshi Goswami and Khagen Kalita—both are technical consultant of ASCPCR also attended the workshop as resource persons.In his presentation Mrinal Talukdar, who is also the Media Resource Person of ASCPCR, made deliberations on various issues related to reporting children and asked every media persons to be sensitive to the concerns and rights of the children while reporting them. He also spoke on reporting non-event news over events and sound biting news. P Talukdar also informed about various databases available in the internet to collect information on various issues and problems while reporting. Dr. Pilu Hazarika, in her presentation spoke about various legal provisions and state interventions on cases related to children in the workshop. The highly interactive media workshop session was participated by senior journalists and President of NL Press Club Kumud Baruah, Karuna Krishna Nath, Dipen Bora, Jiban Goswami, Bubul Hazarika, Farhana Ahmed, Hemanta Bez, Nilpaban Sabhapandit and many more. A valedictory function was also held at the end of the media workshop where the concluding speech was delivered by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college. The entire workshop was anchored by Sazzad Hussain, Co-ordinator, Media Cell, Lakhimpur Commerce College.
