THE REVEAL,
Guwahati, June 15: While water logging remained in several parts of the city yesterday, the overnight drizzle hasn't helped things improve. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the flood situation in Guwahati with overnight rains keeping people living in vulnerable areas on the edge. While water logging remained in several parts of the city yesterday, the overnight drizzle hasn’t helped things improve. The NDRF and SDRF continued to remain on standby through the night in flood-prone areas. Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the district administration directed all educational institutes in Kamrup Metropolitan to remain close for the day. The Met department, meanwhile, has issued a red alert for Assam till tomorrow. It may be mentioned that at least 5 people lost their lives in the floods and landslides in Guwahati yesterday prompting the district administration to issue an advisory urging people not to venture out of their houses unless it’s essential. Besides, those living in landslide-prone areas have also been asked to temporarily shift to safer locations. Not only this, but the Kamrup Metro district administration is also assessing the situation in the hilly areas of the city especially areas that are thickly populated. Relief camps have also been set up to shelter affected people and essentials are being supplied to those in need. In the wake of the situation in Guwahati, Assam Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan and Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, both of whom were attending the 2-day BJP state executive meet in Diphu, rushed back to the city to take stock of things.
