Chirang, June 19: The sensational robbery took place in Kashikotra under Sidli police station in Chirang in the early hours of Saturday evening. A group of three robbers looted the house of a drug store named Biran Basumtary with a pistol worth Rs 80,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh. Police from Sidli police station came to Biran Basumtary's residence after receiving information about the robbery case and started an investigation. Soon thereafter, Chirang Superintendent of Police Pranjeet Bora, Deputy Superintendent of Police Laba Kumar Deka also came and took stock of the situation. Biran Basumtary said three youths entered his house on a motorcycle while closing his medicine shop at Kashikotra intersection at 7:45pm and initially threatened other members of the house by taking out pistols. Then They took Biran Basumtary inside the house and physically thrashed him and took off his steel cupboard and looted gold ornaments worth about Rs 2 lakh. The robbers' robbery has created a stir in Kashikotra area by showing such pistols in the evening. It may be recalled that the local people requested the government and the administration to take appropriate action against such miscreants in the wake of the firing and robbery that has been observed in the peaceful BTR area for the past few days.
