STAFF REPORTER

Guwahati, Sept 28: On the occasion of World Rabies Day, 2021, Guwahati based animal welfare organization JBF (Just be Friendly) initiated the largest Anti Rabies Vaccination Programme for dogs and cats for the first time in all states of North East. As one of the biggest initiatives towards the eradication of the world’s deadliest disease, the program was a collaborative approach that ran from September 22 to September 28 in more than 20 locations of North Eastern States simultaneously. The second phase of this program was held on 28th September in different parts of the states. Additionally, the state of Tripura conducted their second phase of ARV drive from September 28 for another week. JBF organized the programs as an appreciative gesture to observe 87th Birthday of Brigitte Bardot, former Hollywood actress, who is one the oldest well-wisher and constant supporter of the organization. Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, founder of JBF states “The ultimate goal is to control and eliminate Dog mediated rabies, which is one of the few communicable diseases that can be eliminated using currently available vaccines and tools for veterinary and public health interventions. As this year’s theme says, let us work together to spread Facts, and not Fear, I urge everyone to come forward and participate in the prevention of this deadly disease in animals and human beings.” Every year, 28th September is observed as “World Rabies day‟ since 2007 by several organizations including government, non-government, and social sector organizations etc. to alert the general public regarding deadly Rabies and its preventive measures. This year the theme of this program is “Rabies: Facts, not Fear”.
