Senior Fellowship of Ministry of Culture to Dr. Nilim Chetia

Dibrugarh, Sept 30: Actor, playwright, theatre director and research scholar Dr. Nilim Chetia is selected for the award of prestigious Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India for the year 2019-2020. The Fellowship is awarded to Outstanding Persons in the Fields of Culture and this year 19 theatre practitioners of the country are selected under which Dr Chetia will carry out a research titled –‘Folkloric Theatre practice in Assam (1947-2020) for two years. Nilim Chetia, a doctorate in Communication and Journalism from Gauhati University, previously has taken short term courses in National school of drama, New Delhi and Film & Television Institute of India, Pune. Dr. Chetia is active in both theatre and cinema and has been engaged in various theatre activities including initiatives of National school of drama and Sangeet Natak Akademi in Assam as well as the whole country. Some of his theatrical activities are like light designed for more than hundred productions of some of the eminent theatre personalities, acted in about thirty plays and directed more than forty drama productions. He has been writing both in Assamese and English news- paper, magazines, and published a good number of research papers on media, culture, folklore etc. He has appeared as an actor in diploma films of Whistling woods International, Mumbai and FTII, Pune with some other feature and short films. Also serving as actor’s trainer, Dr. Chetia’s most remarkable appearance is as young Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in the feature film Sonar Boron Pakhi.
