Dr. Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti invited to deliver lecture on Srimanta Sankardeva by Rutgers University USA

Nagaon, Sep 3: Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, scholar of Sankaradeva studies has been invited by the Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA to deliver a lecture on Srimanta Sankaradeva. The lecture will be delivered online on 28th September. It has been organised by the South Asian Studies (SASP) program at Rutgers University. The Namghar Association of America (NAAM), a US-based non-profit organization formed by the Assamese diaspora, has co-sponsored the event. The topic of the lecture is “Srimanta Sankardeva, the Polymath from India ''. The research scholars and faculty members of the Rutgers University will attend the lecture, apart from the Assamese diaspora of the USA. Rutgers University has been in communication with Dr Borkakoti for several months for this lecture. His lecture will cover the entire spectrum of activities by the great polymath, Srimanta Sankaradeva. The time of the lecture is 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm IST. It may be mentioned that Dr Borkakoti has already authored more than 60 books, 41 books out of these on Srimanta Sankaradeva. He writes in both English and Assamese. His books have been preserved in the libraries of prestigious universities across the world. Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Chicago, California, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Boston, Pennsylvania, Columbia, Emory, North Carolina, Texas, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Washington, Stanford, Illinois, McMaster, Yale, Michigan, Free State, Toronto, Heidelberg etc have preserved his books in their libraries. His book “Majuli : resources and challenges’ was counted by several portals of India as one of the important books published in the entire country. A researcher of medieval Assamese literature, Dr Borkakoti has carried out extensive research on the Assamese hagiographies and authored a research-based biography of Srimanta Sankaradeva in both English and Assamese. He has edited three medieval hagiographies. He has translated the medieval scripture Nāmghoshā authored by Madhavadeva to English and also written a commentary on it. He has translated Borgeet and Gunamālā authored by Srimanta Sankaradeva to English. He has written an English novel “The Redeemer '' based on the life of Srimanta Sankaradeva. An alumnus of JNU, New Delhi, Dr Borkakoti is also a recipient of Vaishnavite Literature Award in 2008.
