Staff Reporter, Tezpur: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Kaushik Kashyap of Tezpur as the President of the Assam Pradesh National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The appointment was made by K.C. Venugopal, All India General Secretary of the Indian National Congress. NSUI, the student wing of the Congress party, played a significant role in Assam during the tenure of the Tarun Gogoi-led government but has seen a gradual decline in its influence following the end of Congress rule in the state. With the Assam Legislative Assembly elections approaching, the Congress high command has initiated extensive organizational restructuring within the state, including this appointment. Following the recent elevation of Gaurav Gogoi as President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Kaushik Kashyap will formally assume charge as NSUI Assam President on August 4. Prior to this, he will attend a meeting of the NSUI executive committee on August 3. A resident of Chandmari, Tezpur, Kaushik Kashyap is an alumnus of Don Bosco School, Tezpur, and Darrang College, where he completed his Higher Secondary studies. He later obtained a law degree from NEF Law College. Speaking on his appointment, Kashyap stated that NSUI is working towards strengthening its presence in student politics ahead of the upcoming elections. He noted that over one lakh new members have been enrolled into the organization across the state this year. He further added that NSUI units in colleges and universities will be revitalized, and the organization will actively engage with state issues starting from August.
