Staff Reporter, Silchar: The sudden and mysterious disappearance of Rohit Chanda, a student of Assam University and an active leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), has caused deep concern among students, university staff, and the wider public in Silchar. Police have launched an intensive search operation as tensions rise across the academic community. Rohit’s vanishing comes in the backdrop of unconfirmed allegations linking him and a few associates to a suspected admission scam at Gurucharan College. While the matter had reportedly been raised informally with Cachar Police, it was believed to have been “settled” without formal investigation. The timing of his disappearance—just days after these allegations surfaced—has raised suspicions and intensified public scrutiny. A new twist in the case emerged with a viral voice recording allegedly featuring Rohit’s associate Kalicharan Deb, in which he refers to a candidate as “Rohit’s,” suggesting possible involvement in admission irregularities. The authenticity of the audio is still unverified. Speaking to The Weekly Reveal, Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta confirmed that reports of admission-related irregularities at Gurucharan College had reached the police but declined to comment on the audio recording. “Our immediate focus is locating Rohit and ensuring his safety,” he said, urging the public not to jump to conclusions. As of now, no concrete evidence directly implicates Rohit in any wrongdoing. Authorities are investigating multiple angles and have appealed for any information that could help trace the missing student. The case remains open.
