Sunday crime surge alarms Digboi after highway robbery

Staff Reporter, Digboi: A rise in Sunday night crimes has alarmed residents of Tingrai Station in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The latest case occurred around 10 p.m. on NH-38, where two Tinsukia-based businessmen, Sashi Gupta and Tultul Mahato, were robbed of Rs 7 lakh by unidentified assailants in a four-wheeler. This follows two similar Sunday incidents — a theft of gold worth Rs 6 lakh from Subham Dwara’s house and a grocery shop robbery. Locals also report increasing cattle theft, raising concerns about worsening law and order. Despite police patrols, locals blame roadside dhabas and illegal liquor activity for rising crime. Authorities are probing a possible Sunday crime pattern and have urged Village Defence Parties to remain alert.
