Security Forces deal major blow to insurgents in Longding district

Nabam Wangno,Itanagar: In a series of decisive operations this week, security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district made substantial gains against insurgent groups, apprehending a senior operative of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction and neutralising two militants from the NSCN(K-YA) faction near the Indo-Myanmar border. On June 5, acting on specific inputs from Military Intelligence Kolkata, personnel of the 24 Assam Rifles launched a swift operation in Dasatong village under Kanubari police station jurisdiction. The operation resulted in the arrest of Manting Wangnowham, a self-styled Sergeant Major of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi). Wangnowham, a local resident, had reportedly returned to the village on June 3 with plans to carry out extortion activities. In a separate operation the same day, security personnel engaged suspected NSCN(K-YA) insurgents in a fierce encounter along the porous Indo-Myanmar border. Acting on intelligence regarding militant movement, an army patrol was ambushed near the frontier. A heavy exchange of fire ensued, lasting several hours. Two insurgents were killed, later identified as Sergeant Major Nyaklung and Lance Corporal Neyung Aung. Sources said the remaining militants fled back into Myanmar, exploiting the dense jungle terrain and cross-border routes. Security officials described the twin operations as a significant blow to insurgent networks operating in the region, especially those using the international border for mobility and shelter. Operations in the area have since been intensified to prevent further militant infiltration and ensure local safety.
