Neeraj Chopra eyes gold at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025

New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra would aim to continue his winning momentum after winning the Paris Diamond League earlier in June.Star Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra is all set to compete at the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet in the Czech Republic on June 24.After missing the 2023 and 2024 editions of the showpiece event due to injury, Neeraj will be in the limelight among the best in the business.Though he attended the event in 2024 as a special guest, Neeraj will aim to continue his momentum after he won the Paris Diamond League earlier in June.An interesting fact about the upcoming event is that he will be competing at his new coach's (Jan Zeleny) home turf, the Czech legend is also involved in the organisation of the star-studded event.“I am excited to announce that I will be competing at Zlata Tretra Ostrava this year. It’s a legendary meet, and this edition will be extra special. My coach Jan Zelezny not only won there many times but is also the director of the event,” said Neeraj.After finishing second behind Julian Weber at the Doha Diamond League and the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland, Neeraj Chopra won't be up against the German, who will not be participating in the Golden Spike meet. The Javelin throw event for men is expected to begin at 10:30 PM IST .The two-time Olympic medallist emerged victorious in the recently concluded Paris Diamond League with a throw of 88.16m, surpassing his counterpart Julian Weber, who finished with a best throw of 87.88m.Despite three fouls, Neeraj had already made the mammoth throw in his first attempt and won the Paris-based event.After the event in Czechia, the Tokyo Olympics Gold medallist would be a part of the first Neeraj Chopra Classic, which is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on July 5.The event was initially scheduled for May 24, but due to the recently escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, the event was postponed.The major event this year for Neeraj will be the World Athletics Championship, which will be held in Tokyo from September 13."Main goal for the season is obviously World Championships in Tokyo," said Chopra, who won a gold at the previous edition of the biennial showpiece.
