A Correspondent, Goalpara: The Goalpara district administration on Monday launched a major eviction drive in the Hasila Beel area, aiming to reclaim nearly 1,500 bighas of encroached government land. Led by the civil administration and backed by heavy police deployment, the operation targets 667 illegally occupied households and numerous unauthorized structures, including five schools and a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project operating without permission on public land. Prior to the eviction, authorities issued formal notices and used banners and loudspeakers to inform occupants, urging them to vacate the area by June 15, 2025. Despite the warnings, many residential and commercial structures, including boundary walls, shops, and bore wells, remain and are now slated for demolition. The police have ensured tight security at the site to maintain peace and prevent disruptions during the operation. Officials described the drive as part of a wider initiative to reclaim public land for development and welfare projects, emphasizing the need to protect government property from illegal encroachments.
