Staff Reporter, Tezu/Guwahati: Dr. Debenjit Kumar Sharma, a Guwahati-based medical professional, has been reported missing from the Parshuram Kund area in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district since the morning of May 31. Authorities fear he may have drowned in the swelling Lohit River, which has seen a significant rise in water levels following days of heavy rainfall. According to sources, Dr. Sharma had been staying at a resort near the river. Resort staff had reportedly warned guests to evacuate the area due to worsening weather conditions and flood risks. Despite the warnings, Sharma was last seen leaving his room around 8 AM on May 31. He has not been seen or heard from since. In a puzzling development, Sharma’s personal belongings—including his motorcycle, camera, leg guards, and identification documents—were found untouched in his room, further deepening concerns about his sudden disappearance. The resort owner alerted local authorities later that day, prompting police to begin a search. Superintendent of Police Thutan Jamba confirmed that the report was filed on the evening of May 31 at Wakro Police Station. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched, and a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has since joined the efforts. Despite continuous search operations, Sharma remains untraceable. His family members have reached Wakro and are in close contact with the authorities, offering assistance in the ongoing efforts to locate him. Parshuram Kund, where the incident occurred, is a revered Hindu pilgrimage site situated about 48 kilometers from Tezu. The area attracts thousands of devotees annually, but also poses safety risks during the monsoon season due to its proximity to the turbulent Lohit River. The search for Dr. Sharma continues as authorities urge pilgrims and visitors to exercise extreme caution in the area.
