Communal tension averted: Hojai Dist Admin acts swiftly to restore peace

Nikhil Kumar Mundra, Hojai:Swift intervention by the Hojai District Administration on Sunday helped defuse a potentially volatile communal situation at Borpukhuri and Bhuyan Patty areas. The unrest was triggered after alleged dumping of banned meat near Hindu religious sites during Eid-ul-Zuha. District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagwati, accompanied by Superintendent of Police Saurab Gupta and local MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh, visited the affected areas and engaged in dialogue with both communities to ease tensions. The Hindu community at Borpukhuri protested the incident with road blockades and slogans, while a counter-protest emerged from the Bhuyan Patty side, leading to a mild lathi charge by police to disperse crowds. One individual, Amir Hussain from Bhuyan Patty, was arrested in connection with the incident. Residents also submitted a memorandum demanding a police outpost, improved lighting, and stricter preventive measures. The DC assured that immediate local issues would be resolved and others discussed with the state government. IGP Akhilesh Kumar Singh also visited the site and assured a thorough investigation, stating that strict action would be taken against those responsible for attempting to disturb communal harmony.
