A Correspondent, Tezpur: In a significant crackdown, the Arunachal Pradesh Police, with support from Tezpur Police, unearthed a fake Inner Line Permit (ILP) racket operating out of Garuanpatti under Tezpur Sadar Police Station in Assam. The accused, Ashis Ghosh, was arrested for allegedly running the illegal operation from his residence. Ghosh, son of Chandan Ghosh, is a data operator employed with the District Disaster Management Department at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tezpur. According to police sources, he had been generating and distributing forged ILPs, both digitally and in physical format, to individuals seeking unauthorized entry into Arunachal Pradesh, charging hefty sums for the fake documents. The racket came to light during routine document inspections at the Bhalukpung check gate, where vigilant officials noticed discrepancies, including forged signatures of the Tawang Circle Officer on several ILPs. This discovery prompted the Arunachal Pradesh administration to lodge a formal complaint at Bhalukpung Police Station. Acting swiftly, the Arunachal Pradesh Police launched a coordinated operation and apprehended Ghosh on Sunday. During the raid at his home, authorities seized incriminating materials such as fake ILPs, forged seals, laptops, printers, and other tools used in the fabrication of official documents. Ghosh is now in custody of Arunachal Pradesh Police, and further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the racket and identify any possible accomplices. Officials have expressed serious concern over the breach of administrative protocols and the security implications for the Inner Line Permit system, which plays a crucial role in regulating the movement of people into Arunachal Pradesh.
