Youth robbed at knifepoint in Guwahati

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a shocking incident under the busy Ganeshguri flyover, two women robbed a young man of Rs 18,000 in broad daylight, threatening him with a sharp weapon. The Dispur Police launched an immediate manhunt and arrested both accused within hours. The victim, Sahil Basfor, had arrived from Tinsukia for work. He was allegedly lured by one of the accused, Janmoni Begum, who posed as a friendly local before guiding him to a secluded spot. There, her accomplice, Amina Begum, was waiting. The duo cornered Basfor and threatened him with a sharp weapon, forcing him to hand over the cash. Shaken, the victim lodged a complaint with the police, who responded swiftly. A late-night operation led to the arrest of Janmoni Begum from Mangaldoi and Amina Begum from Chaygaon. Both were charged with armed robbery. Following the attack, police presence has been increased around the Ganeshguri flyover — a typically busy area for commuters and vendors. Authorities are now reassessing security around major public transit points to deter similar incidents.
