Six arrested for performing dangerous stunts in Guwahati

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a swift and decisive action, Guwahati Traffic Police arrested six youths for performing dangerous stunts atop a moving vehicle on the elevated corridor bridge near the Brahmaputra river. The incident, which was caught on video, has drawn widespread condemnation and triggered immediate intervention by the authorities due to the serious threat it posed to public safety. The individuals arrested have been identified as Md Pinku Ali (22) of Dharapur, and Md Akib Javed (21), Md Riaz Ahmed (20), Md Ashik Ali (25), Md Akib Ali (21), and Md Sahid Ali (20) — all residents of Garigaon. According to the police, the stunt was carried out on rented vehicles obtained from travel agencies based in Six Mile and Uzanbazar. Both vehicles involved have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Legal proceedings have been initiated under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities are also probing whether the stunt was linked to a social media trend or online challenge — a growing concern in recent times where individuals risk their lives for online attention. “This type of reckless behavior is absolutely unacceptable. It not only endangers the lives of those involved but also jeopardizes the safety of other road users,” a senior traffic police official stated. “Strict legal action will be taken against anyone who engages in such unlawful activities.” The police have reiterated their appeal to the public, particularly the youth, to act responsibly and avoid indulging in such life-threatening acts. The department is also ramping up surveillance on key stretches of roadways and bridges to deter similar incidents in the future. The video of the incident, which has since gone viral, sparked an outcry on social media, with many citizens demanding stricter enforcement and awareness campaigns to curb the rising trend of dangerous stunts for digital fame. As investigations continue, the authorities have assured that no leniency will be shown in cases that threaten public safety, and further arrests could follow if more individuals are found to be involved.
