NFR Completes Girder Launching on World’s Tallest Railway Pier Bridge

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reached a historic engineering milestone with the successful completion of girder launching on the iconic Bridge No. 164—popularly known as the Noney Bridge—in the state of Manipur. This monumental achievement is part of the ambitious 111-km-long Jiribam–Imphal Railway Line project, a transformative infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity across the northeastern region. Bridge No. 164 stands out as an engineering marvel, boasting the world’s tallest railway piers—P3 and P4—each soaring to a record-breaking height of 141 meters. With the recent erection of the final span, NFR has successfully launched all eight spans of this awe-inspiring structure, marking a significant milestone in the bridge's construction and a triumph for Indian engineering. The Noney Bridge’s superstructure features an innovative steel span configuration of 1x71.5m + 5x106m + 1x71.5m + 1x30m, meticulously designed to ensure structural stability and resilience against the region’s rugged terrain and harsh environmental conditions. Its completion reflects the exemplary dedication, planning, and engineering excellence of the NFR team, who overcame formidable geological and climatic challenges.
