Aditya Ankur, Tezpur: The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting for the month of May was convened on Tuesday at Conference Hall-II of the Office of the District Commissioner, Sonitpur. The meeting was presided over by Additional District Commissioner (ADC) Twahir Alam and focused on key measures to enhance road safety and reduce road accidents in the district. District Transport Officer Amar Baruah apprised the members about ongoing awareness drives, especially around the Koliabhomora Bridge, where drivers of passenger vehicles are being regularly counselled to adhere to traffic rules and maintain speed limits. He informed that during the month of May, 378 cases were registered for non-wearing of helmets and 533 cases for overspeeding. Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Jagadish Goswami, reported that four hospitals in the district—Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Sirajuli Model Hospital, Rangapara PHC, and Dhekiajuli CHC—have been successfully onboarded to the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) platform. Discussions were also held on spreading awareness about the "Chhota Cop" initiative among schoolchildren and recently held training to departmental officials for efficient data entry into the iRAD platform. Other topics covered in the meeting included collaboration between the Forest Department and APDCL for trimming of trees, and addressing various other related issues. In his concluding remarks, ADC Twahir Alam emphasized the importance of onboarding more hospitals onto the iRAD platform and creating widespread awareness about the “Hit and Run Scheme” among both the general public and hospital authorities. Chairperson of Tezpur Municipal Board Ramen Tamuli, Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Madhurima Das, DRSC Member Secretary Ajit Kumar Medhi, and other concerned officials and committee members were present in today’s meeting.
