Silpi Divas observed at Biswanath

Staff Reporter, Biswanath Chariali, January 17: The 17th January has been celebrated as Silpi Divas to commemorate the death anniversary of legendary artiste, musician, composer, film director, freedom fighter and eminent litterateur Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala every year throughout the state. Biswanath is no exception to this. The death anniversary of the legendary was celebrated with pomp and grandeur. The special day was observed by Purvottar Hindi Sahitya Academy in association with Biswanath district Hindi Sahitya Academy at Biswanath Ghat today with a day-long programme. Dr. Khemraj Nepal, advisory member of Sahitya Akademi graced the multilingual poetry circle organised in connection with the 73rd death anniversary of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala as a chief guest. Hari Prasad Upadhyaya, retired principal of Bapuji HS graced the event as an appointed speaker who had highlighted the life and contributions of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. The session was chaired by Rita Singh Sarjana, chairman of Purvottar Hindi Sahitya Academy. Shankar Prasad Gupta, Purna Kumar Sarma and Bhaben Bora were felicitated by the organizers for their distinguished contributions in the fields of art, literature and culture. Poets including Bedadeep Upadhyaya, Divyajyoti Barua, Raju Bodo, Soiyada Anuwara Khatun, Arjun Nirola, Krishna Neel Karki, Sudhan Sahani, Rajendra Gupta, Tika Devi, Bajaranga Raniyar read out their self-composed poems. Santosh Mahato conducted the proceedings of the session.
