Alumni Meet of Lakhimpur Commerce College held

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, January 23: An alumni meet of Lakhimpur Commerce College, North Lakhimpur was held at the college today. Organized by the Alumni Association of the college, the meeting was inaugurated by Dr. Gunindra Nath Sarma, Principal of Nowboicha College and an alumni of Lakhimpur Commerce College. The ceremonial lamp of the meet was lit by Utpal Dutta, ex-MLA and minister of Assam and an alumni of the college. An open meeting was held on that occasion which was chaired by Raj Kumar Saraf, President of the Alumni Association of Lakhimpur Commerce College. The welcome address was delivered by Munin Saikia, secretary of the Alumni Association of the college. Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college thanked everyone for organizing the alumni meet of the college on the golden jubilee year of the college. Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University attended the function as the chief guest. Dr. Hazarika also inaugurated the research journal of the college on that occasion. Dr. Anil Saikia, retired Principal of Moran College and member of Sangeet Natak Akademi attended the meeting as an invited guest. Eminent academician Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, President of the Governing Body of the college Dr. Muhidhar Pujari and founder Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College Dr. Hemanta Kumar Baruwa also attended the alumni meet as guests of honour. Outstanding alumni of the college and renowned company secretary, Nanda Kishore Rathi, chartered accountant and first rank holder of HS Commerce from the college in 1989 Anil Agarwala, alumni and eminent businessman Jagadish Bajaj, Meena Jain and several others addressed the gathering on that occasion.The captain of current Assam Ranji cricket team, Kunal Saikia, an alumni of the college, was felicitated on that occasion by the alumni association. In his absence, Kunal’s mother received the felicitation. Earlier in the morning, the alumni meet of Lakhimpur Commerce College began with the hoisting of the flag by Raj Kumar Saraf, President of the Alumni Association. This was followed by Swaheed Tarpan bv Munin Saikia, secretary of the alumni association. A vermin compost facility donated by the Alumni Association of the college was inaugurated by Jagadish Bajaj on that occasion. In the evening, a cultural programme was organized where popular singer Mantu Saikia performed.
