Massive eviction drive against encroachment of railway land at Nagaon

Bureau Report, Nagaon, November 10: As per directive of Indian Railways, district administration well equipped with sufficient police as well as para military forces, led by the circle officer, Nagaon Sadar - K. Ishan Singh today carried out a massive eviction drive against encroachment of railway land at Nagaon railway station colony near Morikolong under Nagaon PS. During the drive, the administration demolished over hundred of houses of encroachers on both sides of the railway track near the railway colony. Sources claimed that the district administration issued notices to over a thousand encroachers a couple of weeks ago and urged them to cooperate with the administration in this regard by shifting away from the railway land. Significantly, after receiving the notification from the administration, many of them abandoned their respective houses and shifted to other places for which the eviction drive that was carried out today was quite peaceful. No incidents of scuffle between the police or para military forces and encroachers was reported till the time of filing this report, sources said, adding that the administration would carry out further eviction drives against the rest of the encroachers in due course of time too. While speaking to some local media persons here, K. Ishan Singh, Nagaon Sadar circle officer said the administration will take the same measures against those encroachers who erected houses or constructed multi storey building at government land near Nagaon Morikolong and covered even to the heart of the stagnant water body of Morikolong.
