Tinsukia, November 23: As a part of the 400th Birth Anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan, a Marathon was flagged off today by Preeti Kumari, IAS, SDO, Margherita from Eco Park to Central Field, Margherita. The event was organised by the civil administration in collaboration with the Margherita District Sports Association. Along with the SDO and officials of the administration, students from different educational institutes also took part in the Marathon.Another event ‘Asomi Mela’ was also inaugurated today at Eco Park by the SDO, Margherita, which was organised by the civil administration in collaboration with Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission and Assam State Urban Livelihood Mission under Margherita Development Block. Preeti Kumari, IAS, SDO, Margherita spoke on the occasion, highlighting the courage and strength of Bir Lachit and praised the women entrepreneurs for showcasing similar strength in running their small businesses while also managing their respective households. She also added, that Bir Lachit Barphukan is inspiration for all and apart from the noble cause of celebrating the greatest military General of Assam, she wished that the event will help them in generating revenue.Around 15 stalls were opened by the women SHG members comprising of traditional garments, artifacts, plants, eateries etc. The trade fair which commenced today will run till November 25. The inauguration function was attended by Shri. Anand Kumar Sarma and Rajlaxi Devi Gogoi, Chairman and Vice- Chairman Margherita Municipal Board, Assistant Commissioners Siddhartha Sonowal and Pranta Pratim Patra, Election Officer Aditi Neog, Circle Officer Runal Nath, BDO Urvashi Chetia and other administrative officials along with Block Project Manager, Olee Paul, members of different Self Help Groups and the general public.
