Barpeta, October 17: Translated book 'Alexandre Dumar Dukhan Kaljayi Upanyas' was released by Minakshi Buragohain, eminent translator, novelist and Associate Professor, Dept. of Assamese, Tura Government College on Sunday at Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya conference hall. 'Alexandre Dumar Dukhan Kaljayi Upanyas' is a compilation of two translated novels “The Count of Monte Cristo” & “The Man in the Iron Mask” by great French writer Alexandre Dumas which is translated to Assamese language by Dr. Gobinda Prasad Bhuyan, eminent translator, writer and Assistant Professor, Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya. Formally releasing the book 'Alexandre Dumar Dukhan Kaljayi Upanyas', Buragohain, said, "Translation is the communication of the meaning of a source-language text by means of an equivalent target-language text. Translation is more than just changing the words from one language to another. Translation builds bridges between cultures.” Revered Kuntala Patowary Goswami, chairperson, Krishnaguru Shiksha Parishad attended the event as chief guest and stressed on the importance and significance of translation in Assamese literature. The history of translation in Assamese is as old as the written Assamese literature - she added. In this context she remembered Madhab Kandali, Mahapurush Sankardev, Mahapurush Madhabdev etc. for their utmost contributions in the field of translation. While delivering the lecture Chairperson of the meeting and Vice-Chancellor of Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya Dr. Tarun Ch. Bora briefly told the stories about Alexandre Dumas’ great novels 'The Count of Monte Cristo” & “The Man in the Iron Mask”. Dr. Bora also said that one can find the translation taste of Homer's Iliad, and Odyssey in almost all the translation works of Dr. Gobinda Prasad Bhuyan. Dr. Kamala Kanta Dutta, Registrar, Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya expressed his appreciation for the translation work of the two great novels into Assamese. Dr Madhurjya Mandit Baruah, HoD, Deptt. of Assamese, Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya, Preeti Rekha Dutta, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Assamese, B.H.B. College, Sarupeta, Dr. Tapan Ch. Nath, Assistant Professor, Uttar Barpeta College, Dr. Jageshwar Bora, HoD, Political Science, Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya, Kalyani Deka, Principal, Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya, Kusum Dutta, Associate Professor, Deptt. of Sociology Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya delivered their lecture on the occasion. The programme started with a classical dance by Debabarnini Bhuyan and ended with a Krishnaguru prayer.
