Educational film screening by USTM in Jorbil village

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, October 18: Department of Library and Information Science of USTM recently conducted an outreach activity on the occasion of International Day for Rural Women-2022 for the women residents of Jorbill Village. On Saturday, USTM invited the women residents of its adopted Jorbil village to the university campus where students motivated the rural women about the importance of education in everyday life through plays and screening of motivational films portraying the importance of educating a girl child in order to bring development in the society. Amrita Devi, Assistant Professor and HoD, addressed the rural women and stressed upon the importance of educating a girl child so as to empower them to eliminate all kinds of social problems faced by the women in rural India and to make the country achieve greater heights. The main aim of this outreach activity was to create awareness about the importance of education amongst the rural women and girls and how education can act as a powerful tool in empowering them to earn a better standard of living in the society and by enabling them to fight against social evils which are still prevalent in the rural areas like: early marriage of girls, gender discrimination and dowry system.
