Nazira, September 20: An awareness meeting on drug and alcohol abuse was organized for students by Nazira Recovery Foundation in collaboration with the State Anti-Drug and Prohibition Council (SADPC) and the Nazira College on Monday. The meeting, held at the Nazira College, was attended by SADPC vice-chairman Jitu Borgohain as the special guest and Nazira Assistant Commissioner Pritam Gogoi, Nazira SDPO Subhalakshmi Dutta, Nazira Model Police Station OC Bhaben Das, mediaperson Dilip Hazarika and Madhuri Bora as guests. Borgohain and other guests discussed the ill-effects of drug addiction and alcoholism in the presence of hundreds of students. They spoke about how drugs, alcohol and tobacco products like gutkha were taking a toll on youths and their families. They pointed out that drugs and alcohol were responsible for many anti-social activities. The speakers at the meeting advised the youths to stay away from the menace of alcohol and drug abuse. They also praised youth activist Tuhin Hazarika for his initiative to form the Nazira Recovery Foundation with the noble aim of bringing drug and alcohol abusers back to the mainstream of society. The programme was moderated by Nazira College vice-principal Jogal Bharali. Prof. Dr Jyoti Ranjan Mili and activists of Nazira Recovery Foundation also attended the meeting.
