Man gets life in jail for sexual assault in Lakhimpur

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, September 23: One person named Maheswar Phukan has been sentenced for 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5000/-(five thousand) and, in default another 3 months extra imprisonment by the Special Judge (P), Lakhimpur Rashmita Das today. The accused was faced charge under section 4 of POCSO(Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act). The accused Maheswar Phukan committed penetrative sexual assault against a minor girl under Laluk Police Station of Lakhimpur district. At the end of the trial, the court had obtained sufficient proof against the accused and pronounced judgment today . The case was conducted for the state by special public prosecutor Madhab Chandra Gogoi.
