GU NCC organized a mega plantation drive at Chakardo Hill

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, September 16: Gauhati University NSS Cell launched a Plantation drive with the theme ‘Pahar Bor Xeuj Karo Ahok’- Let’s Make Our Hills Green at Chakardo Hill at Mikirpara, Azara in association with Hari Gayatri Das College NSS Unit, S.B. Deorah College NSS Unit, Dispur College NSS Unit and GU Campus NSS Unit. The plantation drive is a part of ongoing year long Mega Plantation drive run by GU NSS Cell. Participating in the programme Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare, G.U. and Programme Coordinator, GU NSS Cell urged the NSS volunteers to plant trees in nearby hills of Guwahati as the hills are rapidly losing their green cover and said that only through plantation we can mitigate the problem of global warming and rapid deforestation. Dr. Kakati launched the plantation drive by planting a sapling of ‘Red Sandal’. The plantation drive was also attended by Dr. Rituparna Borah, P.O., GU campus NSS Unit and Dr. Swapna Sarmah, P.O., Hari Gayatri Das College NSS Unit along with 50 NSS volunteers. More than 100 plant saplings of different local varieties were planted during the plantation drive.
