Segunbari Tea Company violates labour laws in Margherita

Bikash Baruah, Tinsukia August 31: Segunbari Tea Company Ltd Margherita has once again violated Assam Tea plantation labour Act where till midnight women workers are found forcefully working under the nose of Tinsukia district Assistant labour Commissioner and Tinsukia district administration. On Tuesday night at 9:00 pm this Correspondent visited Segunbari Tea company Ltd where he found more than 20 women working inside the Tea company without any safety equipment which a few days ago a woman worker got seriously while working in the Tea company. Segunbari Tea company Ltd Margherita is owned by Gautam Beria a noted Industrialist of Assam but unfortunately more than 90 % workers and employees are getting their salary through voucher payment and without provident fund, gratuity, medical facilities than also these workers are working day and night which is violation of Assam labour Act said a worker of Segunbari Tea company Ltd. Several times Tinsukia district Assistant labour Commissioner visits Segunbari Tea company Ltd but nothing they do whereas we have several times given written complaints to Tinsukia District Assistant labour Commissioner but all in vain said a women worker of Segunbari Tea company Ltd. We demand to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma and State Minister for Tea Tribes, Labour and Employment Sanjay Kishan to take legal action the owner of Segunbari Tea company Ltd Margherita where workers and employees are working like slave said a worker of Segunbari Tea company Ltd Margherita.When this Correspondent contacted the Manager of Segunbari Tea company Ltd Margherita he was unable to get contact.
