Biswanath Chariali, August 20: Today is a historic day for the Gorkhas of India. On this day the Nepali language got constitutional recognition in the year 1992. Since then, August 20 is observed as Nepali Language Recognition Day throughout India. A public meeting was organized at the community hall of Tupiya to commemorate the special day with Khemraj Chetry in the chair. The day-long programme began with hoisting of a flag followed by smriti tarpan. Before the open session a multilingual poetry circle was held with Cheban sarma in the chair. The meeting was addressed by Indralal Sarma, Dadhiram Subedi, Bhuban Sarma, Sanjay Simkhara besides others. Meritorious students were also felicitated in the meeting. Dadhiram Pathak conducted the proceedings of the meeting.
