Nagaon, July 16: Community Canning and Training Centre under district agriculture department organized a week-long training programme on processing of fruits and vegetables at its office campus since July 11 last. The programme concluded on Friday last. Over 22 women entrepreneurs from various places in the district participated in the training programme. In the closing function, Tarun Hazarika, the district agriculture officer was present as the chief guest. In his speech, Hazarika said such training programmes will strengthen the women entrepreneurs of the district to be self-reliant in the society. Besides, it will help to conserve the seasonal fruits and vegetables for a period of time instead of being destroyed or rotten, he said adding that over 30 percent local seasonal fruits and vegetables were being destroyed every year in the state due to lack of proper facilities of processing and training. Hazarika also distributed the certificates as well as recognition among the participants for taking part in the training programme. Mukul Bharati Nath SDAO, Community Canning and Training Centre, Bishnujit Paul Chaudhary, Agriculture Inspector and other officials of the centre were present in the closing function, a release added.
