HARESWAR BORA,
Nagaon, July 9: Opposing the increasing prices of essential goods as well as other petroleum products across the state, two youths of the district today staged a street play on road near Nowgong College Clock tower point. In the play, a youth identified as Birinchi Bora in the costume of Lord Shiva and a girl in costume of Goddess Parvati came on a motorcycle. When they reached the clock tower point, they found the fuel tank of the motorcycle was empty. Meanwhile both the riders got down from the motorcycle and taking the current prices of essential goods as well as petroleum products, they got involved in a quarrel between themselves. The youth who were in costume of Lord Shiva slammed for an incredible price hike in almost all goods and essential commodities including fuels, gas cylinders and other petroleum products. Significantly, following this novel and symbolic protest, the district units of Bajrang dal and Biswa Hindu Parishad Nagaon separately lodged two FIRs in Nagaon PS alleging that the youths categorically hurt the dignity of Hindu Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and doing so, the participants who played the roles of lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in the street play, allegedly smashed the centuries long faith as well as emotions of the followers of the religion too. Meanwhile Nagaon police immediately picked up Birinchi Bora who played the role of lord Shiva and he was being quizzed in Nagaon PS till the time of filing this report. Simultaneously, police were also on trial to pick up the girl who participated in the play as goddess Parvati, sources added further.
