Nagaon, July 12: The students union, college governing body and other allumnus of Anandaram Dhekial Phukan College, Nagaon pledged the authority concerned of state higher education directorate to remobilize the academic activities as well as educational atmosphere of the college by reinstating Dr Surajit Bhagwati in the college as the principal. In this regard, the students, allumni as well as governing bodies of the college submitted separate memorandums to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, state Education minister and the director of Assam Higher Education department and appealed all to scrape his suspension as early as possible for the greater interest of the students as well as the free and fair academic atmosphere of the college. It is noteworthy to be mentioned here that Dr Bhagwati was put under suspension with immediate effect by the director of higher education after a case of alleged mental harassment as well as molestation to two contractual female teachers of the same college was registered against him in Nagaon PS. Subsequently, Dr Bhagwati was arrested by Nagaon police and was sent under Judicial custody for a month. He was released on bail on May 20 last.
