Wild elephant attack in Pengeri Khatangani

STAFF REPORTER, Tinsukia, June 17: Elephant human conflict continues in different parts of the state. Elephant human conflict has increased day by day due to the destruction of elephant habitat forests.The forest cover is shrinking as some smuggled wood mafia has been cutting down forest trees from one side.As a result, wild elephant herds have been forced to out of the forest to the public in search of food.A wild elephant out of the forest in search of food from Digboi forest at around 2pm tonight caused nuisance in Inthem khatangpani. Wild elephants attacked three poor families namely Pawan Tasa, Bipan Tasa and Soneshwari Mech and caused extensive damage.Wild elephants demolish the dream house and demolish utensils including food items stored in the house.Local villagers alleged that wild elephants coming out of the forest every year in search of food have been causing nuisance in the area but the forest department does not care.The local people as well as the local organization have demanded the forest department to compensate the affected families at the earliest.
