Union Minister Sonowal attends Diamond Jubilee valedictory function of Shipping Corporation of India

Mumbai, Oct 3: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways  Sarbananda Sonowal took part in the Diamond Jubilee valedictory function of the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) in Mumbai today. Coinciding with the program, the Union Minister planted a Tulsi sapling at the SCI campus and witnessed a colourful play and cultural display showcased by members of the SCI family. In the programme, the Union Minister virtually flagged off the vessel SCI Chennai on EXIM voyage. The vessel will sail from Kandla, proceed to Kochi and Tuticorin for loading export cargo and sail towards the Middle East. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also felicitated and interacted with the crew members of MT Swarna Krishna, which had set sail on the high seas with an all women crew. The voyage was a historic one for the global shipping sector and the Union Minister extolled the courage of the woman seafarers and termed them as a glowing example of India’s Nari Shakti taking on a male dominated industry. Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the glorious service of SCI to the nation and commended the entire SCI family. The Minister said, “In 60 glorious years, SCI has served India with great dedication to bolster our economic growth and is carrying forward Hon'ble PM  Narendra Modi ji's vision of Make in India. I comment on the SCI family and extend my best wishes for its future endeavours.” Union Mos  Shantanu Thakur, dignitaries and stakeholders were in attendance at the valedictory function.
