GM of NFR Inaugurates Two Renovated Lawn Tennis Courts

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a significant boost to the sporting infrastructure of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava inaugurated two newly renovated outdoor lawn tennis courts at the NFR Sports Association (NFRSA) complex in Nambari, Maligaon. The state-of-the-art courts, upgraded to meet international standards, feature a multi-layered latex acrylic resin-based cushioned surface, offering enhanced elasticity, UV protection, and improved player safety—ideal for both professional and competitive play. These additions complement the existing indoor court, creating a comprehensive platform for training under the NFRSA Lawn Tennis Academy, which currently mentors 50 students. Several trainees have already earned national-level accolades, showcasing the academy’s commitment to excellence. Beyond tennis, NFRSA runs over a dozen sports academies, including athletics, boxing, swimming, football, cricket, and archery, supporting more than 2,000 athletes under the guidance of certified coaches. The association’s facilities also include modern gyms, synthetic tracks, a swimming pool, cricket practice halls, and physiotherapy and hostel amenities, contributing to a holistic sports environment. The initiative reflects NFRSA’s ongoing efforts to promote sports culture and wellness among employees, their families, and the broader community.
