Staff Reporter, Guwahati : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the BJP will contest all 40 seats in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections without any alliances. Speaking at the Vijay Sankalp Sabha in Mudaibari, Udalguri, Sarma emphasized the party’s decision to rely solely on its organisational strength. Highlighting the peace achieved in the BTR over the past five years under BJP governance, Sarma promised a focus on holistic development in the next term. “We are not against UPPL or BPF, but this time, we will go it alone,” he stated to a cheering crowd. Urging unity among indigenous Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, the Chief Minister called on the people to identify the region’s real challenges and work together for inclusive progress. He stressed equal rights and government benefits for all communities. On the development front, Sarma announced a ₹33-crore government college in Kalaigaon and revealed plans to explore setting up an IIT in the BTR within the next five years—signalling major strides in education and infrastructure. The BJP’s solo move marks a bold shift in BTR politics, traditionally driven by regional alliances.
