Assamese Film ‘Hiraeth’ to Premiere at Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2025

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assamese feature film ‘Hiraeth’, written, shot, and directed by Chow Partha Borgohain, has been officially selected for the in-competition category at the 16th Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF), scheduled from September 14 to 21 nest.The film will have its world premiere at CSAFF, which will showcase acclaimed works from across the globe. The opening night red carpet will be held on September 19 in downtown Chicago, with the closing ceremony on September 21. Shot mainly in Dibrugarh, ‘Hiraeth’ is a social realism drama portraying the struggles of Pori, a village woman displaced by floods, as she and her husband confront the harsh realities of urban life. The 100-minute Assamese-language film stars Meghali Kalita, Ashim Kumar Sharma, and Atanu Mahanta, along with a supporting ensemble cast. Expressing his joy, Borgohain said he was “overwhelmed and happy” by the recognition, dedicating the film to “all those who struggle with dignity and are never seen.” Produced by Sengpem Borgohain, with Subhitya Borgohain and Ruchie Baruah as executive producers, the film features cinematography by Borgohain himself, music by AT Ram, and a technical team comprising noted artists from Assam and beyond. The Chicago South Asian Film Festival is one of North America’s largest showcases of South Asian cinema, featuring screenings, discussions, and cultural events.
