Aditya Ankur, Tezpur: Prajapita Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, Tezpur in collaboration with Panch Panchayat Nisha Mukti Nibarok Committee with support from Tezpur College organised an anti-drug awareness rally on Thursday with an aim to transform the cultural city of Tezpur into a ‘Drug-Free Tezpur,’ which commenced from Tezpur College and proceeded towards the office of the Sonitpur District Commissioner. District Commissioner of Sonitpur, Ananda Kumar Das flagging off the rally, appealed to the public, especially those struggling with substance abuse, to shun the harmful habit of drug consumption. He emphasized that by overcoming addiction, individuals can save themselves from self-destruction and contribute to building a healthier and progressive India. The event witnessed the participation of several dignitaries including Tezpur College Principal Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika, Joint Director of District Health Services Jagadish Goswami, Senior Scientist from DRDO Dr. Purushottam Choudhury, members of Prajapita Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, and presidents of various local panchayats including Nurul Haque (Bhomoraguri Zila Parishad), Aftab Hussain (Dolabari GP), Mojibur Rahman (Bhomoraguri GP), and Abdul Mutalib (Rajgarh GP). Representatives of local public, media activists like Saidul Islam, Biswajit Das, students from Tezpur College and ITI also took part in the rally and pledged their commitment towards building a drug-free India. As part of the event, a tableau depicting the plight of drug addicts was displayed which was followed by a city-wide march through Tezpur, raising public awareness against the menace of drugs.
