A Correspondent, Kaziranga: Aaranyak, in collaboration with the Agriculture Development Circle, Rongmongve (KAAC), conducted a one-day training programme on improved banana cultivation for farmers from 10 villages in the Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong Landscape. Held at the farm of Bronson Tokbi, a progressive farmer from Englepothar village, the training aimed to enhance practical knowledge in modern banana farming techniques. Fourteen farmers participated in the session, which covered vital topics such as site selection, planting methods, variety selection, pest and disease management, and irrigation practices. Gouranga Chetia, Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Rongmongve, led the technical discussions with the farmers. To further enrich the session, Bhomkuru Rongphar, a well-known progressive farmer from Diphu, shared his firsthand experiences with improved banana cultivation as a viable alternative livelihood option. The training sought to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern horticulture techniques, equipping local farmers with skills to boost productivity, profitability, and sustainability. The programme was coordinated by Larbeen Teronpi and Uttaran Dutta, with support from Prokash Engti, Joshna Terangpi, Beauty Terangpi, Mirlong Kiling, and Ratul Das of Aaranyak. This initiative marks a vital step in capacity-building for farmers in the region, promoting improved farming methods and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
