News Desk: Devin Harjes, the versatile American actor known for his impactful roles in hit series like Boardwalk Empire, Daredevil, and Gotham, passed away on May 27 at the age of 41 due to complications from cancer. The news was confirmed through an obituary posted on his official website. Harjes had been diagnosed with cancer during the winter and was receiving treatment at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City, according to People magazine. Born in July 1983 in Lubbock, Texas, Harjes initially pursued a life centered around his love for animals— especially horses. However, his passion for the performing arts eventually led him to the Dallas-Fort Worth theatre scene and later to New York City, where he immersed himself in student films and off-Broadway productions. Harjes made a lasting impression as boxing legend Jack Dempsey in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and appeared in multiple high-profile TV shows. He had a notable arc as Pete Baylor in Netflix’s Manifest, appeared as Oscar, a Rikers Island nurse in Daredevil, and played bank guard Clyde in Gotham. His other credits include roles in Blue Bloods, Orange Is the New Black, Elementary, and FBI. His talent also shone in independent cinema, with a standout performance in The Forest is Red, which earned him Best Actor at Italy’s Tolentino International Film Festival. Outside of acting, Harjes was a martial arts enthusiast and a fitness regular, often joking it was safer than “getting kicked in the face by a horse.” He is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, and his sister, Trich Harjes.
