Assam CM Seeks Impartial Probe into Namrata Bora’s Death in Meghalaya Accident

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to initiate a fair and impartial probe into the tragic death of 25-year-old Namrata Bora, who lost her life in a road accident near Nongpoh Police Station in the early hours of June 4. Namrata, a resident of Assam, was returning from Shillong to Guwahati when the vehicle (AS 01 EV 9578) she was travelling collided with a stationary truck at Shangbangla in Ri Bhoi district around 4:44 am. While she succumbed to her injuries, four co-passengers sustained minor wounds. Expressing concern on social media, CM Sarma stated, “In view of the concerns raised by the bereaved family and well-wishers, I request that a fair and impartial enquiry be conducted by a senior police officer to ensure that all facts surrounding the incident are brought to light.” The case has taken a sensitive turn, with Namrata’s family demanding a thorough investigation, pointing to discrepancies in the official version. A video circulating online appears to show five individuals in the vehicle prior to the crash, contradicting the six persons mentioned in the FIR. Media reports also suggest that the vehicle was allegedly driven by the son of an AIUDF MLA from Assam. With a case already registered at Nongpoh Police Station, CM Sarma has stressed the need for a senior official to head the inquiry, citing rising public concern and the family’s call for justice.
