Apollo Excelcare Launches Oral Cancer Screening Program

Staff Reporter, Guwahati: In a significant move to enhance preventive oncology in Northeast India, Apollo Excelcare Hospital, in partnership with Apollo Cancer Centres, has launched a dedicated Oral Cancer Screening Program in Guwahati to mark World No Tobacco Day. The initiative highlights Apollo’s steadfast commitment to early detection and holistic cancer care in a region witnessing an alarming surge in oral, head, and neck cancers—largely driven by tobacco consumption and delayed diagnoses. The launch event saw the participation of several leading medical professionals, whose expertise reinforces Apollo’s multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Adil Hassan (Medical Oncologist), Dr. Kiran Kamalasanan (Surgical Oncologist), Dr. Bubul Chandra Roy (ENT and Head & Neck Cancer Specialist), Dr. Akriba Ahmed (ENT Surgeon), Dr. Arnab Kalita (Head & Neck Onco Surgeon), Dr. Kaustabh Kalita (ENT Surgeon), and Dr. Partha Sarathi Saha (Dental Surgeon). Senior leadership from Apollo Excelcare Hospital, including Thaomunglung Chukhrungfa (Chief Operating Officer) and Dr. Seema Konwar (Medical Superintendent), also attended the event. The program was graced by Dr. Naveen Ramchandra Nagar, Director – Medical Services, Apollo Oncology & International, who served as the Special Guest. He underscored Apollo’s long-term strategic focus on cancer prevention, awareness, and early intervention. Speaking at the event, Arnab Jyoti Das, Public Relations Officer, remarked, “This initiative focuses on identifying individuals at high risk by organizing regular screening camps within communities. It emphasizes early detection and aims to increase public awareness about cancer risk factors and warning signs. By catching cancers in their early stages, the program seeks to lower both the long-term financial impact and the physical toll of treating advanced-stage cancer.” The newly launched screening program is set to play a pivotal role in community outreach, encouraging healthier lifestyles and fostering timely medical intervention—a crucial step in combating the rising cancer burden in the Northeast.
