Brajanath Sharma memorial inter-state drama fest from Sept 11

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, September 9: The 14th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival by well-known amateur theatre group Samahar Natya Gosthee will be held from September 11 to 15 next, at District Library Auditorium here. On this occasion, Drama Festival Committee President Mr Lalit Sarma said: “It is indeed a very happy moment for us to formally announce the programme of the festival. During its 13 years of existence, this festival has become a very important and landmark cultural event of the state. Now, it is a big responsibility on our shoulders to make it a grand success like the previous years.” The first day programme will start with aInauguration ceremony where Brajanath Sharma’s daughter Nirmala Mishra and granddaughter Neelakshi Mishra Sharma will participate. The Festival will be inaugurated by veteran film and theatre actress Chetana Das. The souvenir of the Festival ‘Kohinoor’ will be released in the same event by eminent academician Prof Abdul Mannan. The ceremony will be followed by the play of the first night. Art from Nagaon will present “Sagoror bukut ejaak jonakor mrityu”, written by eminent theatre personality and filmmaker Arup Borthakur. The play, directed by Suraj Kumar Saikia, mainly talks about the perennial flood havoc and its impact on common people. On September 12, Jagiroad Natyagosthi will perform “Ekalabya''. On September 13 Playwright and director Rupkumar Bora’s “Jiban Zindabad '' will be presented by the famous Jorhat Theatre. On September 14, Agartala-based Somankur will stage their latest play “Bodhoday”. Similarly, September 15, Samahar Natya Gosthee will stage the maiden show of their latest play “Drohi”, written and directed by renowned playwright and theatre personality Dr Sitanath Lahkar- a release added.
