Governor Kataria visits Barpeta Satra today

Staff Reporter, Barpeta, July 28: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today visited Barpeta Satra and paid his homage. Expressing his reverence, the Governor said that he felt blessed and privileged to have visited the holy satra which was founded by none other than Shri Madhabdeva. Paying his tributes to Srimanta Sankardeva and his disciple Madhabdeva, the Governor said that as a mark of respect to these great saints various institutions were established which are acting as the identity of Assam’s spiritual and cultural life. The Governor further said that the legacy of Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhabdeva still lives on with the propagation of Neo Vaishnavism which has tremendous influence on people's lives. As a part of his day district visit to Barpeta, the Governor held a meeting with DC, SP and heads of the other departments of Barpeta in the circuit house. The Governor discussed at length the performance of various Central and State government schemes. The Governor asked the DC to assiduously implement MGNREGA in the district to provide wages to the deserving people. The Governor also took stock of the progress of the works being undertaken by various departments like PWD, PHE, Irrigation etc. He also took note of the implementation of Mukhya Mantri Paki Path Nirman Achoni. The Governor expressed satisfaction on the progress of TB Mukt Abhiyan as the adoption of TB patients is satisfactory. The SP of the district gave a detailed presentation on the prevailing law and order scenario in the district. He also asked the SP on the need of having people friendly police stations and police forces to promote the humane face of Assam Police. Later, the Governor paid a visit to the Barpeta Road Sri Krishna Gaushala. During his visit, he expressed his admiration to the Gaushala's efforts in introducing the Gir Gai breed to Assam. He emphasized the significance of this breed for the state's dairy industry and encouraged the Gaushala to promote and distribute this cow across the state to boost dairy production. Later, the Governor visited the Sakal Digambar Jain Samaj in Barpeta Road and spent some time there.
