AASU opposes Electricity tariff hike at Nagaon

Staff Reporter, Nagaon, February 1: District Unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) staged a sit-in in protest against the state government's decision to increase the tariff in electricity, in front of the office of the deputy commissioner, Nagaon today. Over hundred activists from the district unit of the students' organization participated in the stir and slammed the state government's decision to increase the power tariff across the state. During the agitation, the protesters shouted various slogans against the move and urged the government to avoid such anti people and stubborn sycophantic decisions at any cost as it is inhumane and injustice towards the common people of the state. Referring to the economic debacles of the common people caused by the waves of COVID 19 situation for two consecutive years, the agitators said the people in general have been devastated and apart from that, they have to carry extra burden of increasing prices in all essential items as well as commodities. Amidst such a critical situation, the government should think how the people in the state are struggling with financial devastation, the participants argued further. Central executive of the students' organization Gauri Shankar Saikia, district president and secretary of the organization respectively Simanta Bora and Deepjyoti Bora were among those who participated in the stir, a release added.
